Super Socks

Up until now, Super Socks has only been available online at Amazon in both the paperback and the Kindle format.  I’m delighted to tell you that it’s now available at Barnes & Noble in paper and Nook format, and on Kobo in ebook format.  Not everyone likes to shop at Amazon so it’s great for me to be able to tell you that there are now other options!

You can find it the Barnes & Noble paperback here, the Nook ebook here and the Kobo ebook here.

2022 update – now available through bookstores including Waterstones in the UK – just ask your local bookseller!

Oh, blast! I should have waited…there's a Barnes & Noble bookstore not a mile from my home, but I ordered my book from Amazon where I got it in only 2 days, so I'm happy to have it in my possession.

I had a question about the heel flap position on socks: I know it's a long time tradition of being knit at the back of the heel, but why there? My socks wear out from the friction of bottom of heel where it meets the insole of the shoe…not the back of the heel where the heel flap is located. Most of my shoes that I wear with my hand knit socks are clogs or slides, backless shoes that I don't see the need for a heel flap. I hope you can settle this question.

Thanks for buying the book, Joan! If you don't wear your socks out on the heel, I don't see why you couldn't knit the heel flap in plain knit if you wanted to and then use the heel stitch underneath. I've got a tutorial for reinforcing the heel and sole of the foot which you could use instead ( Alternatively, you could experiment with different types of heels which don't use a heel flap – the idea of the Sockalong sock was always for it to be a springboard to understand how a sock is constructed and then once you're confident with that, it will be easy to look at other patterns and see how they suit you 🙂 xx

Just about to finish my third pair. This will be my first pair using WYS. You were right – it's a lovely yarn to knit with and such beautiful colours. I have had lots of enquiries about my socks and thought your book and all of the required resources would make a great gift for my crafty friends. Quick queries – are there details in the book as to how to resize? Fortunately, you and I have similar size feet so I have been able to follow your pattern to the letter but my daughter would love a pair as would my mum and mother in law, all with different sized feet!!!! Hope you are continuing to enjoy half term x

Hi Angela, I'm glad you're enjoying the WYS yarn, it's definitely one of my favourites to knit with! Yes, there are instructions about resizing in the tension tutorial section of the book – there's an explanation of how to work out how many stitches you need based on the size of your foot (it's also in the online tutorials if you want to have a quick look first – just look for the tension tutorial) xx
