Blogtober 2023 : Day 3

A chopped up credit card lying on a white table next to an open pair of scissors

Goodbye, credit card!

There is something quite satisfying about chopping the plastic card up into pieces, but it’s not quite so satisfying when it’s necessary because someone else has been trying to spend money with it!

Today has been spent on the phone with the credit card company, checking statements and trying to remember if it really was me or not who might have tried to buy something at a particular time – and it wasn’t.  Or at least, if it was and I’ve forgotten, whoever was selling something won’t be getting any money from that card now!  They can always email me if there’s a problem, but this is not the first time this has happened, and the lady on the phone at the bank didn’t hesitate to say that they would send me a new one.

It’s such a faff, isn’t it?  Big daughter was talking about it earlier when she said she had to send a copy of her passport to someone and was really nervous about it, even though she knew it would be OK.  I think we’re so used now to thinking that someone going to try to steal our details in some way that we immediately assume the worst and it’s not a nice way for us to live.

Anyway, tonight the pieces of my credit card are at the bottom of the bin and nobody will be using it.

I’ve clocked off early and I’m knitting in front of the TV, cat on my lap and the dog snoring gently in front of the fire.  This is what I would much rather think about!

Sign of the times, isn’t it?!? So sad that some lowlife think they are entitled to spend your hard earned cash!
I can understand your daughter’s concern too- I actually refused to send in a copy of my marriage certificate to one credit card company as they wanted me to send it with a completed form which gave enough details for someone to set up a new account so if it had got ‘lost’ in the post, who knows what could have happened!! The woman on the phone did actually agree with me that it wasn’t safe and she would pass my concerns on to the relevant department but it was the only way I could have my account changed to my new married name! Suffice to say that credit card account is now closed!

Ugh, it’s the worst, isn’t it? I hope the bank is prompt in recovering your money!

Luckily the bank had declined the payments but it’s happened before and there was a lot of money involved. It’s lovely to see you again and see that you’re taking part in Blogtober again! 🙂 xx

oh that’s horrible, glad you managed to sort it out. But it’s not nice, when that happens

Infuriating isn’t it? My debit card was used fraudulently so the bank put a stop on it – the day before I went on holiday. A new one arrived 4 days later, can’t be activated 😡, now the bank is sending a new PIN. I honestly didn’t realise how much I used it until I couldn’t!
Especially when the hotel I was staying in was card only so I couldn’t even buy a coffee or a glass of wine 😢
It’s now nearly 2 weeks without a card.

Oh goodness, that’s really inconvenient! It’s quite unusual not to be able to use cash in a hotel, isn’t it? Maybe they changed their rules during Covid times and haven’t changed them. I do hope you get your card back in your purse soon! (Although think of how much money you’ve saved 🙂 ) xx
