Blogtober 2023 : Day 26

Well, today I have had a lesson in appreciating the moment as I woke up to rain on the windows and the wind whistling round the house – it couldn’t have been more different to yesterday’s beautiful autumn day and I am glad that I was outside in the sunshine yesterday to make the most of it.

Neither the dog nor I set foot outside the door until a short while ago when I needed to give not so small daughter a lift to where she helps out at Brownies, and I have spent the day knitting something that I can’t show you just yet which is really not ideal for Blogtober!  I can tell you, however, that I’m on season 10 of the Big Bang Theory (over time – I haven’t watched 9 seasons today!) as I have discovered that having “easy” TV on in the background is better for my knitting productivity than podcasts or the radio as I keep wanting to stop to look things up 🙂  It can’t be anything too interesting or I stop what I’m doing to watch it, and it can’t be anything with subtitles or I miss what’s going on, or anything with action instead of words because I often miss that too because I’m looking at how the design is working out.

I have previously watched Virgin River, Sweet Magnolias and Chesapeake Shores whilst knitting to deadlines which ordinarily would not be my choice of programme but it turns out are also good background TV, and I’ve enjoyed them too.  I’ve also been watching Welcome to Wrexham which is a series about the football team bought by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds which my husband and I went to watch last year and that’s got more addictive as the programmes have gone on and intertwines the lives of the players and the supporters with the matches.

And I don’t watch TV all day, just so that you know – just some days when the deadline is looming closer than I’d like it to be  Ooh, the life of a sock knitting designer … spoilt rotten, I am 🙂

I can also tell you that my design apprentice still hasn’t got the hang of what you’re supposed to do with the yarn and you’d have thought that she’d have improved during the year (this was during the Jay design process) …

It’s a good job I’d already unravelled that version of the pattern or I would have been very cross!

I’m all set to release the new pattern for the baby socks tomorrow so I think the easiest thing will be for me to put out two posts – one with the pattern details and another one to fit in with Blogtober, otherwise it’ll look odd in months to come if people are looking for that pattern and the title is Blogtober 2023.

I’ll be glad to get it out into the world – I’m still in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it’s nice to have another pattern to talk about at this time of the year.  DK baby socks might also make a nice gift for someone with small feet with the festive time of year coming up, so hopefully the timing will be just right 🙂

I’ll leave you with a preview of what’s to come tomorrow and see you then! xx

Oh like you I enjoy background tv to speed up my sock knitting. I tend to watch it on my iPad and I’ve found the many seasons of Greys Anatomy to be just the ticket. Nothing too arduous, just the odd comical moment to lighten the load. Virgin River too has found its way here. I’ll be intrigued to see your baby sock pattern. Using your formula I managed to down size to make my new grand daughter a pair. I wrote about it here:-

I love The Big Bang Theory, there is always something to laugh at no matter how many times I have seen an episode.

Your baby socks are especially delightful
but how could they be otherwise with such a helpful pussycat by your side!

I don’t know, I’ve come to realise that they’re not always that helpful … although always cute 🙂 You’re right about The Big Bang Theory, it really makes me laugh out loud 🙂 xx

I always have background TV on to my knitting & crochet. My big show lately has been the original “Gossip Girl” but “Doctor Who” was my #1 in the past.
