Winwick Mum Sockalong 1st birthday
Goodness, can you believe that it’s been a whole year since the very first socks were cast on in the Winwick Mum Sockalong? And wow, what a year it’s been!
It’s been quite amazing, and quite emotional too, to know that the Sockalong has helped so many people all around the world to knit a pair of socks. There are so many reasons why it’s been important to people to produce their own pair of hand-knits, and I can’t tell you what a privilege it feels to have been involved in making this to happen. There’s something very special about knitting your own socks, whether they’re for you or for a gift, and I know there have been a lot of happy feet this year. I also know that there’s been a shortage of short circular needles, a rise in sock yarn sales and an increase in international friendships through our Facebook groups. Magic of all kinds through the pointy sticks!
So what happens now? More of the same, of course! The tutorials are staying on the blog, the book is staying on Amazon and the Sockalong is still running. It’s never too late to jump in and start a pair of socks, and my hope is that more people who have always wanted to knit socks but never managed it for whatever reason will find the tutorials and be able to join in.
We do need a celebration though, so feel free to sing “Happy Birthday” at the top of your voice whilst doing your happy dance in your socks – and if they’re still on the needles you can sing anyway. If the materials for knitting your socks are still in the bag, now’s your chance to get them started! 🙂
I also thought that a giveaway might be in order so with the help of a few friends I have gathered together some lovely treats and here’s what you can win …
There’s a signed copy of Super Socks so that you can follow the tutorials wherever you are. The information is the same as the blog tutorials but split by needle type rather than by sock section. It’s a good size to prop open whilst you work and there are just as many pictures to help you get to grips with knitting your sock.
There is a set of very cute tea and cakes stitch markers which have kindly been donated by Rachel Horton. They’re perfect for a birthday party and will help you to keep track of your decreases very easily.
A skein of very gorgeous Peak District Yarns merino 4ply sock yarn in the colourway “Azalea Walk”, which is the generous gift of Carrie Warr, the talent behind all of the Peak District Yarns.
A year’s subscription to adopt an alpaca at Charnwood Forest Alpacas. If you’ve ever fancied owning your very own alpaca, this is as close as you can get without needing a paddock! You’ll get a choice of alpaca to adopt, an adoption certificate and photo of your chosen alpaca and information about the herd at Charnwood Forest.
And last but by no means least, this very beautiful Harris Tweed knitting bag with a matching accessory bag and DPN/circular needle roll with 16 compartments. This has been specially made for the Sockalong 1st birthday and gifted by Hilary of The Fabulous Mr G and is just the thing for transporting your socks (or any other project) in style. Harris Tweed is rather special material and Hilary’s attention to detail is superb. You know you’ll be the talk of your knitting group with these bags – and that’s before they see your knitting!
If you would like to enter the giveaway, it’s very easy. I’d love to get an idea of how many socks have been made through the Sockalong over the last year, so if you’ve knitted socks, please tell me how many pairs you’ve knitted. If you haven’t knitted any socks yet but would still like to enter the giveaway, just tell me who your second pair of socks is going to be knitted for – because your first pair will be for yourself!
I’ll be drawing the winner on Sunday 8 May to give as many people as possible chance to see the post, so please do share it if you can. Won’t it be wonderful to have some idea how many pairs of socks are out in the world? I’m very excited just thinking about it!
Good luck – and here’s to many more Winwick Mum Sockalong birthdays!
I've knitted 2 and 2 half pairs of socks since joining the sock along! Thank you so much for the support and encouragement xx
Congrats!! I've knitted 5 pairs and on the second sock of my 6th. Thanks so much for your help and support, and for creating a fabulous group! X
I've knitted about 6 pairs of socks in total, my last pair is for my soon to be born niece.
I've knit socks for a few years and have done 12 pairs this year, but I came to your sock along at black sheep wools and found it really inspirational and am now experimenting with patterns and hand dyed sock yarn…….it was lovely to meet you………a truly inspirational lady. Thank you so much
I haven't knitted any yet, but am planning to give it a go,as I love seeing the ones you make. My second pair would be for my lovely mum, coz we sadly lost my dad last year and these would help keep her feet warm at night. Xx
I have knitted two pair of socks. The first was a 21st birthday pressent. Second for me
9 pairs! 10th on the sticks 😊 Oh, what a jolly year it's been. Thanks for all of it, Christine x

I've not taken the plunge yet, but am determined to. My 2nd pair i knit will be for my sister in law as a wedding present.
I'm a relative sock newbie, I finished my second pair yesterday and I love them! Both for me at the moment, although my daughter has her eyes on a pair!!
I'm currently working on pairs 10/11/12 because you can't beat having so many WIPs on the needles
I have knitted eight pairs of socks, made lovely new friends all around the world, bought a ridiculous amount of gorgeous yarn, stitch markers, new needles and become addicted to knitting socks and shawls. I have been to so many different places with the sock sisters, shared ups and downs and seen some truly amazing projects,so happy birthday and a massive thank you.x
I've managed one pair so far, my second and third pairs will be for my 2 daughters.
I've made four pairs now, but the first two were not good! Now I've used your pattern though, I have perfectly fitting socks! So, 2 pairs complete, third pair on the needles and yarn for my fourth pair ready to go! Thank you for everything Christine! X
Four and a half pairs so far. When I first decided to knit socks (a few years ago) my Grandma laughed and said "I bet you only ever knit one sock!" I pulled that first sock out three times before giving up on it. Then Lucy from Attic24 showed us the socks she had knitted with the instructions on the blog and I was inspired to have another go. I can't believe how easy you have made the whole process. I have learned so much and love being part of our online community. Thank you, Christine!
Emma M
I have knitted 2 pairs of socks using your guide and the socks are sooo comfortable. I am now on my third pair .. this sock making is addictive
I'm on my second pair using your easy to follow pattern. Thank you so much for sharing this. Now my son's uni housemates all want a pair!
I'm still learning but my second pair will be for my best friend – she understands my need for stripy socks!
I am just learning to knit, with the sole purpose of knitting socks! I have your book on my wishlist for when I get a bit better. As selfish as it sounds, my second pair would be for me, as I have a circulation problem that causes painfully cold feet. I really want some decent woolly socks! My goal is to start my first pair before then end of the year, which gives me chance to finish the four crocheted blankets I am currently working on. Happy birthday!
I've knitted 10 pairs, 6 for me, 3 as gifts, and a pair for hubby…who is now 'hooked' and has politely ordered more! All thanks to you Christine, and it sounds silly but it has actually changed my life by giving me confidence in my knitting. It's changed my bank balance too but we won't go there! Lil xx
I haven't knitted any yet as I'm terrified of circular needles. But, after making a pair for me I would start on pairs for my grandchildren.
I've knitted about 4 pairs over the past year, just completed a pair yesterday. I'm eying up my stash contemplating which one to pick next 🙂
I would absolutely love to be able to knit socks. I'm a crocheter, and find knitting so clumsy, but all these gorgeous hand knitted socks I see all over Instagram make me want to knit a pair – or 10! My granny used to knit socks and my husband loved the ones she made. Sadly she passed away 10 years ago and I never thought to learn from her. So, my second pair of socks would have to be for my husband, in memory of my lovely granny!
I've knitted 2 pairs- the first was for my teenage daughter and the 2nd is for me! Lots more skeins and balls in waiting though….
Finished my second pair last week for my father in law's birthday- the ultimate gift for an 89 year old! I have a collection of yarn waiting for the next pair.
I am a knitted-sock virgin. But I am going to have a go as soon as I have finished the shawl I am knitting for my granddaughter expected on 19th May. I think the 2nd pair I knit would be for her.
Happy birthday to the Sockalong! I'm on pair 12 at the mo. Can't remember what I did before sock knitting! Thanks for the happy hobby!
I'm working on my first pair 🙂 its been a slow process as our puppy ate the first one I completed so I had to start all over again. They are going to be for my daughter when they are finished.
I've made 7 pairs since Christmas, I was a little late to your sock a long party, but so glad I came, I love the portability of sock knitting – if you'd said to me I'd be knitting with thin wool on tiny needles I would never have believed you. Thank you, thank you for your inspiration.
I have done 5 pairs- I joined in February- and have the yarn for 26 more!
I'm currently on pair number 31, I'm just totally addicted and have a stash of sock wool which is definitely beyond life expectancy……..!!
First pair in process but 2 more pairs planned and brought for. My daughter has a pair of clear wellies waiting for hers ;0)
Ive done one for mee! And one on the go for the bf
I've only made one pair of socks, but have squirreled away a few skeins of beautiful wool over summer (which in most parts of Australia is a 'knit free' time of year!). But now I'm getting primed, and well prepared heading into autumn!
I've only ever made one sock – it was too tight around my calf so I gave up. Once I've made myself a pair, I'd love to knit one for my daughter…
I was converted to your socks and blog via attic 24 lucy ! 🙂 Lucy's wonderful blogs got me back to crocheting after 30 years and yours have got me back to knitting :-)….I have only been a sockaholic for a couple of months so have only completed one pair but am on the second sock of my second pair.. you have both inspired me so much! Thank you and happy sock along birthday 🙂
I have knitted 7 pair for myself and two pair as gifts. Love wearing hand made socks!
I learned how to crochet AND knit back when I was really young – 6 or 7 years old. I "took" to crocheting much better than knitting and have been crocheting for decades (and decades, scarily enough). However, I've always loved knitted items and – oh, my – socks, especially.
After hearing so many people sing your praises, I ordered your book and have been DETERMINED to knit socks. DETERMINED.
I'm still at it, months later.
To be fair, I've had to put the needles down for quite a while, in order to finish crocheting 14 pairs of otters (thanks to Simply Crochet), because otters and their rafting are a theme this year at the school ("friends stick together"), so each classroom will receive an otter (and it would be ideal if the otters are finished before summer).
But once that last tail is sewn on and the otters are in their homes, I'm picking up the socks again. Because I am DETERMINED to knit socks.
🙂
16 pairs and no signs of letting up, another two already on the needles!! Hope it's ok to post here as well as on the FB page 😉 Thanks Christine x
I've made six pairs so far and am stocked up for another four! How wonderful to have socks that actually fit my feet for a change – although knitting socks needs a health warning – Soooooo addictive! Just as well that both daughters are wanting pairs. And so much more portable than jumper knitting.
Sally Q
I've only managed one pair, which my daughter claimed. The next pair are started, but so much knitting and too little time
I discovered your blog and Sockalong via Attic24 and love gifting handmade creations. Even so I haven't started knitting socks yet, I got the gear; sock wool, knitting needles, boring stitch markers and of cause your book 🙂 Until I finish the 1000 origami cranes for my son's wedding in September the socks will have to wait. By the time you celebrate the second birthday I should be hooked and able to tell you who got the second pair 🙂
HI Christine! Lovely to meet you again on Saturday, if only briefly! One of these days we will have to make time to sit down and have a coffee and a proper chat 🙂 I'm still on my first pair (hangs head in shame) but I am making progress with the second and will finish them! I may even be tempted to make another pair but the first pair I am going to give away. I have a good friend who is fighting cancer and the chemo has caused neuropathy in her feet, so they are always cold. Once they are done, they are going to help feet that need them more than mine do 🙂 xxx Kathryn
I am well on my way to finishing my second pair of socks. The first pair were started and completed last month so it's fair to say that it's as addictive as I was warned it could be.
Although pair one and two are for me, I have ordered some fabulous bright colours to make some for my boys. Thanks for the pattern, the virtual encouragement to take the leap and of course the giveaway.
Abbe
I've managed to knit 3 and a half pairs. Due to a fault in the wool I ended up having to spend 7 hours on Christmas Eve knitting a sock! (I'm not a fast knitter) x
I'm sad to say I've never knitted a pair of socks, although it is on my to do list. The first paid wold be for my daughter who is a great sock lover! Thanks for a lovely blog – I enjoy all the posts but especially the musings!
I've completed 4 pair and have 1 sock each of two more pair completed! I have totally enjoyed seeing all the wonderful socks being knitted around the world! (I've actually knitted 7 pair but first 3 pair all got turned back into yarn balls because they didn't come out the right size. But now I have it figured out!)
I'm not sure how many pairs I've knit, quite a few though, my family have all been gifted hand made socks over the years. I don't have any on the needles at the moment but I shall be rectifying that soon, not sure who I'll be knitting them for yet. What a fabulous giveaway, so many wonderful prizes, all clearly thought out to appeal to the sock knitter. I think you may have got your date wrong though, you've put that the giveaway ends on the 8th of March.
I can travel through time as well … 😉 Thanks for spotting that, all fixed now! xx
I have knit one pair this year! My daughter has recently decided she'll be headed to a very cold climate for college, so has requested many pairs for her!
Last month I knitted my first pair of socks following your tutorial and I'm now in my second pair!!!
I've made at least 6 pair for my daughter, but they mysteriously "disappeared" after her friends have stayed over. I'm finishing a pair right now, but I have claimed them for myself
Hi Christine, since I started my sock journey I have completed 8 pairs of socks, (6 in 4ply, 1 pair of DK boot socks and 1 pair of trainer socks).
Thank you for your lovely blog! I've lost count of how many socks I've knitted 😀 Currently knitting a pair for my husband, and have just ordered striping yarn for the next pair for myself.
I've completed 6 pairs since discovering your beautiful blog and book last autumn Christine ♥♥ I ALWAYS have a sock on the go!! It's my go-to therapy after a hectic day. I have recommended your book so many times to people. It's been a life changer for me. It's so special seeing someone wearing handmade socks and hearing how much they love them! EVERYONE is getting socks this Christmas ♥♥
Happy, Happy Birthday Sockalong xxx
I have made 1 pair of socks and it took me so long to finish second sock that the pair ended up being too small for dear daughter! I want to make second pair of socks for donation.
I haven't started my first sock yet but my 2nd pair will be for my kind SIL, Pam. She gave me a pair that she knit recently and I love them. I love Kaffe Fassett fabric and I would use his colorway when I start my socks. I'm a new knitter and am doing up dishcloths as practice . I'm stuck on a shamrock dishie pattern right now and sometimes have too many stitches and sometimes too few on a row !! Practice makes perfect in knitting, doesn't it? I enjoy your blog, Christine . T2mcgreer[at]gmail.com. Terri
Hi Christine, just started my second sock on my first pair. I keep wasting knitting time as I keep looking at yarn for my next pair!
I have knit three pairs for me, one for the mother and another one for the sister. I'm on the sixth pair right now. I can't get enough handmade socks!
Happy Sockalongaversary!!!!! I cannot believe that a year has passed and I still haven't learnt how to knit and taken advantage of your wonderful sock teaching. But… It is on my radar to finally have a go at learning to knit this year, so perhaps by the next sockalongaversary I will have joined in! Congratulations and well done for such great work in the sock knitting world!
Hi Christine, Happy Birthday to you and to everyone who is a sockalonger?!!
I can't believe it's a year since we all began our sock journey courtesy of your blog and the tutorials. I am now well and truly hooked, and although I haven't knitted many pairs of socks yet (only 2 pr and 2 on the go) I have loads of yarn ready for me to use. I expect I will be knitting more pairs now as my brother who was always the chauffeur, had a stroke earlier this year and he can't drive at the moment, so that now falls to me for appointments, visits etc so socks will come in very handy to while away the time waiting. By the way, the nurses in the hospital loved my brothers socks which were your pattern. We will convert the world yet MWAH HA HA HA HA!
I have knit 7 pairs and pair #8 is started. Five for me, one for my sister, and one for my wonderful husband to wear on our wedding day!
Christine, I'm DETERMINED to be wearing my own knitted socks this winter onwards. I just have so many WIP's, it's unbelievable. No more now. Then, the Sock drawer commences. YES, OFCOURSE, the first pair will be all mine. Will I wear or just adore, is the question. I want to say that the second pair will be mine too, really. And so on. But, I must not be selfish. The second pair will be for my girl who is an Angel sent from up above. Just for me. I can make a pair for her. Then. Me, me and me. I always have cold feet. I will display them with pride in strappy Birkenstocks. When weather permits. That's the plan. What a lovely, thoughtful giveaway !! Each item. Well done, chick.
Not sure if I can play along over here in the US, but I've made four pairs of socks and have yarn for a fifth just waiting for me to play with it. What a beautiful giveaway package you've assembled!!
I have knitted my first pair this year and love them. I plan on knitting lots more as gifts for Christmas and to donate to a local homeless shelter. The tutorial was really easy to follow. 🙂
Started knitting socks for the first time following the excellent intructions and tutorial. So far have made 19 pairs. Of which I have managed to keep 4. They are made with love and given as gifts. Thank you. Im hooked. X
I'm looking forward to knitting my first pair of socks once I've completed a cushion cover! My second pair will be for my little boy. Happy first birthday!
Happy Birthday sock-a-long
I've knitted 8 pairs in the the last 12 months.
I bought a copy of your book, and have showed it to so many other knitters.
My DH only wears handknitted socks as it keeps his arthritic feet warm and cosy.
Happy Sock birthday
I found your blog via Attic24 and didn't enjoy knitting (all those stitches!) but with circular needles and your lovely instructions I'm now on my 4th sock and I love knitting them. Oh and they are all for me as no one else seems to appreciate them – their loss 🙂
I've never knitted socks but I've been wanting to learn for a while!
My second pair would be for one of my sweet girlfriends 🙂
Hi!
I've always wanted to knit socks, but I'm afraid of not getting it right. My second pair would be for my daughter, if I ever finish my first… Congrats on this Sockalong birthday!
Around 12 pairs in the last year, but I did spend part of it with my right hand in plaster! I'd slowed a bit recently, and wasn't 'feeling the love' for my socks – joining the group, seeing other people's lovely socks, patterns and colours, has set me off again (and my Ravelry library, and Paypal account have expanded to accommodate the enthusiasm!)
Hi Christine and Happy 1st Birthday to Winwick mum. I have just started my 7th pair. I am becoming slightly obsessed 😳! 🎂🎁🎉🎊😊 x
Hi Christine, I'm on my 5th pair of socks, the first for me (of course) the 2nd & 3rd as Christmas pressents for my nieces and the 4th were for my goddaughter. The 5th will be for a friend. love making socks and thanks for the inspiration. Jean.x
Hi I have knitted 4 pairs of socks & have another pair on the go. Once of the pairs was done with a cashmere wool!
Two!! Neither for me…but I have six more balls of wool and look forward to starting another pair once my WIP is finished
I have knitted several pairs of socks throughout the years, but discovered this sock along just now. I hope to get new inspiration out of your blog. I think there's much more to dicover in sockland.
I'm on my 3 rd pair with 2 more lined up. I never thought I could knit socks, but your instructions make it so doable. Thank you for the inspiration!
Happy Birthday Christine and Sockalong! It has been a real inspiration finding your blog through Attic 24. I would never have considered knitting socks before I found you and could not have managed it without your wonderful book. I have completed one pair and I'm half way through a second pair. X
2 & half pairs so far plenty more planned though. A very Happy Sock Birthday
I am close to finish my second pair of socks and it was the first time I knitted socks. It has been so much fun! Thank you!
Hi there Christine I am very keen to learn how to knit socks but haven't knitted since I was very little. I have learnt how to crochet recently but have yet to tackle anything that has to fit something or someone. My second pair would be for a lovely friend at work who has been politely pestering me to make her a pair of socks ever since she first saw me with a ball of yarn in my hand! X
I'm on pair no 3 for my son with wool for pairs 4, 5 and 6 in my stash (for other sons and me too!)
Great giveaway. I'm on my first pair and my second for my mum. lots of lovely inspiration on your blog!
Hi and HAPPY BIRTHDAY sock-a-long! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you devote to this Christine. I am currently on pair number 9! Wow all thanks to your fab tutorial. This pair are for me, with bed socks for hubs next on the list- he has very cold tootsies!
I'm only about 20 rows into my first sick but confident I'll make it to the end, inspired by Lucy of Attic 24. My second pair will be for a friend who just loves stripy socks.☺
Sock knitting is addictive! I have knitted 2 pairs as gifts, and 2 pairs for me (although I still need to kitchener the 2nd Pair!) They are so comfy, I must get them finished. And of course I have the wool for 2 new pairs ….. ! Thanks for the patterns and inspiration xx
Happy birthday & a big warm thank you to Christine. I have knitted 15 pairs plus three toddler socks. I can't believe how warm & comfy they are.. Very special. My next pair are for myself with a lovely yarn 🙂
Wow, congrats for this wonderful milestone. As a sock knitter, that Peak District yarn looks beautiful, as does rest of the gifts. I've made two pairs of socks these past few months and another pair soon for my daughter. You have done such a great job with your sock along. Hugs. Pat
5 pairs and 6th just ready to do battle with kitchener stitch, but i will not be beaten!!! THANK YOU CHRISTINE FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK IN TEACHING THE WORLD TO KNIT SOCKS. So nice to meet you at Yarndale, Skipton, N. Yorkshire last September,a very lovely lady.
Happy birthday sock a long! I've made two pairs of socks my second pair was for my husband and I'm knitting my third pair now! A bit addicted I have to admit! Xx
i am so grateful for your tutorial on making socks, I have made 7 pairs for members of my family, given my sister yarn, short circular pins, your sock pattern and a lovely bag to start her making 4 pairs of socks. (Great birthday present). It had been 25 years since I had knitted so thank you for the inspiration to start again. Alison
best to knit with your book for my first pair. I was told your are the best!
i can't wait to try your sock-a-long and knit a new pair. I want to make a pair for my great nephew who is 13 and growing. I'm afraid he will out grow the socks by the time they're finished.
I actually just found your website a couple of weeks ago, FINALLY found the right sized long circular needle I needed yesterday and am almost done with my first sock 🙂 This first pair is probably going to my mom or grandma as I need to do some adjusting to the measurements for myself. Thank you so much for your ingenious instructions!!
Thank you so much for your tutorial! First pair done for my daughter, two more started!!!!
I am half way thru my first sock and a little less on my second one. My second pair will be for me also. I love your blog and the sock along! Thank you so much. Hugs,
Just to be different I knitted my first pair for my daughter and my second pair for my husband, I still haven't knitted myself a pair.
I am just learning to knit. Why? Because I want to knit socks!! True story! My second pair would go to my daughter, although I have a dear friend who would make tough competition for her.
Happy birthday to the sockalong! I've knitted 3 pairs thanks to the sockalong; first pair for me, second for my daughter and third for my husband. Pair #4 on the needles, at the heel on the first one. Thanks for all your help, you should feel very proud reading all these comments! X
A very big happy birthday wish to you and also thank you. I have always thought I could knit socks but never dared! I am working on my first pair but have bought the yarn for another four pairs including some yarn I bought in Finland. The second pair will be for my hubby.
My mum taught me to knit, my lovely niece gave me sock yarn, needles and your blog address for my birthday last month. I have now started and am positive that this time I will manage the heel (following a previous past disaster). My second pair will be for my sister. Happy Birthday and thank you. Ali
I'm only part way through my first pair of socks but my second pair will be for my long-suffering husband!
Great to find a lovely blog from my former home town, I'm a Sankey girl with links to Culcheth, now in Blackpool!
I am on my third pair now since I got your book in January I'm addicted . Di
Hhappy burthday sockalong. Im nearly finishing my first pair of socks and wouldn't have been able to do it without your wonderful pictures and tutotial. Thank you so much.
I've only made one pair but I love them. They are my campervan socks. I've started my second pair and wool bought for third. Thank you for the excellent instructions. You've taken the mystery out of sock knitting. Judith H
Wow, what a generous giveaway. I am not part of your sock along so not sure if can enter? I have a sock on the needles my first pair in a long time, sock one is done sock two is about half way there, you have reminded me that it is at the bottom of a bag……
I've only recently come across the Sockalong despite knitting a pair of socks being on my to-do list for a long time. Despite being a knitter since a child, I've only attempted socks once, a couple of years ago, without much success. My second pair of socks would be for hubby, and that would be the beginning of many until all the family had a pair! Congratulations on your Sockalong birthday and thanks for the giveaway opportunity! X
Happy Birthday Sockalong! I've knitted 2 pairs of socks – one for me and one for my husband – I've got a pair on my needles for a friend and another pair started for me! And my sock yarn stash has its own box…..
As a knitter for over 30 years I never had the courage to knit socks, but with your tutorial you made it so easy for me. I am now the proud owner of 5 pairs of socks and a lot of sock wool waiting for me to knit more. Many thanks to you for all your hard work and for setting up the groups that give me the enthusiasm to carry on this journey xxxx
I haven't started my first pair yet! Hopefully my second pair will be for my lovely daughter.
Hello Christine, and Happy Birthday Sockalong I'm halfway through my seventh pair. This pair is for my good friend Pam's birthday (we share the same birthday!) Since finding your tutorial on line, I've been addicted. Your step by step guide (no pun intended) was so easy to follow, so clearly written, I followed it effortlessly. Thank you so very much.
I have not started knitting my socks yet, but my second pair will be for my lovely granddaughter, Annabel, who gets very cold feet in winter whilst she is helping out at a riding stables as part of her animal manangement course.
I have got yarn, I've got needles, I am plucking up the courage to start my first pair of socks. These wonderful prizes would give me the incentive to knit a second pair and give them to Ashleigh, my son's girlfriend. Pam H
Your easy to follow tutorials saw me knit my first pair of socks earlier this year. I am currently knitting a second pair (also for me- well I am still practising!!)
Thank you for the giveaway and happy birthday to the sockalong! I have knitted one sock (still need to cast on the other one) so far. Waiting to finish another project before casting on the other. Second pair will be for my patient husband!
I'm on my 2nd pair, and my daughter on her 1st. I wrote you asking for advice how to make size 17 heavy wool socks for my 6 foot 6" tall son, so that's who I made my first pair for. My 2nd pair will go to my other daughter. We were so inspired by your step by step instructions that we ordered enough sock yarn to make at least another 10 pair! Ruth and Joanna from Canada
Second pair will be for my mom would love to win this awesome giveaway! !
I've knitted three pairs so far and just about to cast on the fourth if only I could decide which yarn to use next! Congrats on your sockalong first birthday.
Hi love your pattern and instructions. I have knitted 2 pairs on my 3rd.
I'm still on my first pair and I'm halfway through the second sock. They're on the large side so I need to do a second pair to get to grips with the sizing. One option is to give this first pair away to someone with larger feet but as they're in the colourway 'Heather' they seem suited to me!
Thanks for all the help and encouragement in your blog and the tutorials. I can tell that I'm likely to always have a pair of socks on the go as they make such a portable project.
I have nearly finished my first sock – loved it!! Got my mum started on it too, she is finishing her second pair already!! I would knit a pair for my mum!
My goal last year was to knit a pair if socks a month or 12 for the year. I finished 7 and I'm currently working on a mate to a sock for my daughter. I have yet to knit a pair for myself but maybe the next pair will be mine. I love knitting socks!!!
5 1/2 pairs have been knitted here. Loved every minute of it and there will be many more pairs in the future. Happy Birthday packaging and thank you Christine.
There's nothing like a lovely giveaway to bring out the comments. I have managed 2 pairs of knitted socks and am currently nearly finished my 3rd pair of crocheted socks ( I think these are easier but the finished socks are not so beautiful, still comfy though). The next pair on the needles will be a present so better be good – thanks v much for the inspiration
Emma x
Happy Birthday! I've knitted 4 pairs with the sockalong and 10 pairs altogether!
Lost count of the number of socks I've knitted in the past year, must be into double-figures by now. Try to have some socks on the go all the time – at the moment got one plain rainbow-coloured pair and another in a basketweave pattern on my needles. For Christmas I knitted three pairs for my sister, a pair for my son's girlfriend and a man's pair for another close friend. Love knitting socks!
I've just discovered your blog and am looking forward to exploring it! I have knitted just a couple of pairs of socks.
3 3/4 pairs of socks knitted. I love your blog and your sock-along pattern, it was so easy to understand!
I've made five pairs – plus I've got a ridiculous amount of sock yarn waiting to become more socks!

Happy Birthday ! I'm hoping to finish the second sock of my first pair whilst I'm on holiday next week.
I've made 1 pair so far but am about to start my second. The information in your tutorials gave me the confidence to give it a go.
Happy birthday! Your instructions are the best I've read – I came across your blog while hopelessly stuck at a vital point! I've knitted 1 and 3/4 pairs so far.
Happy birthday, I haven't started yet but the first pair will be for my mum 😀
I have only just found this site while looking at Attic 24 for inspiration to make some socks. I am not a super experienced knitter, but really want to try socks, it just seems so daunting. You sockalong looks like the best way to make it happen. Thank you for putting this material out there – your site is awesome.
In the last year, I've knitted 5 pairs of socks, with a 6th on the needles right now. What a lovely giveaway – so generous of you to give away such beautiful gifts – thank you for being you, and for your blog and all your hints and tips!
Happy Birthday! Your instructions are very good and clear, even for us foreigners! I've finished about 30 pairs so far, mostly for children.
Best wishes, Leena
I have only just discovered your site because I have been playing with the idea of maybe knitting some socks and have been doing some preliminary research 😉 I would love to think that I could learn this new skill well enough to make socks for the whole family. Thanks for the chance to win this generous giveaway!
What a juicy giveaway! Happy birthday! I discovered your blog by Attic 24 and Lucy's love for your socks! I absolutely HAVE to learn to knit one pair for me e a couple for my kids ^_^
What a lovely prize. I've knitted 3 pairs this last month and am on my 4th now. I've used your great tutorial for the first 3 and am trying a toe up for the 4th. It's all been a challenge but am enjoying learning how to knit socks and am encouraged every step of the way with your tutorial. Thank you
Thanks to your inspiration I have now made 6 pairs after trying several years ago and giving up. Your instructions are so clear. My second pair was for my best friend and that has inspired her and her sister to start knitting socks too. It's so infectious. Thank you for your lovely blog and long may it continue.
Dear Christine,
I was planning to give my second pair (almost 1 sock done) to my mum, but……… in the meantime I managed to convince her to sock-along with me! And as she is a quicker knitter than I am, she has almost finished her own pair 🙂
Thank you again for the clear instructions and the new hobby!

Hello, I just found this page tonight when I was looking for a sock pattern. It's just what I need. Thank you for doing this. I have wool (enough for 4 pairs – I'm ambitious), I have needles, I have the inclination to start NOW! I knitted my last pair of socks when I was in P7 – just 50+ years ago. My next pair of socks will be for my daughter; hope she likes them.
Happy birthday! I made 3 pairs so far and I'm working on the fourth one for my young son. My grandmother in Italy also asked for a pair! Thank you very much for your pattern!
Hi! I've knitted 4 pairs of socks in my head and none on actual needles. But it's my RESOLUTION to knit a darn pair of socks this year! LOL.
Dear Winwick Mum
Happy 1st birthday, may there be many more! I have started my first socks (you are right, they are for myself) a few weeks ago, juggling it amongst a busy schedule. Thanks for providing such clear instructions. My 6 year old Miss has placed an order for the next pair!
Hi Christine
I am just about to start my very first pair – so excited. Think that my second pair will be for my granddaughter.
Thank you for a wonderful blog.
Alex
Happy Birthday, I have a pair of socks for me on my needles. They are suitable for gardening, I would love to make a going out pair. Having just found your blog I'm now off to find your book.
Hi I'm so glad I found you post just starting my first pair (you have been a great help) and if they turn out ok. My second pair would be for my daughter she is 20 and loves pink the pinker the better
Happy Birthday! I made 8 pairs of socks and I'm having trouble with the toes. What a great prize – I'd love to win it! Crossing my fingers, knees and toes. Thanks for the easy instructions too!
Happy Birthday I started my first pair yesterday just on the foot section so they are going well. My first pair are all mine, but I have a daughter and nieces who love stripy socks so they will be next.
I have knit two pair of socks this year. I have another pair on the needles for me. May 8th is Mother's Day in Canada. Keeping my fingers crossed
Thank you so so much for your sockalong instructions. I have just finished my first pair of socks and am so delighted with them. Thanks to you I have discovered the delight of a circular short needle – so much easier that dpns – and more portable – and also thanks to you I have a matching pair. Can't wait to get the next pair on the needle! Happy first birthday and many congratulations on assisting in the birth of so many socks!!
Hi. I'm on my first pair of socks, meant to be for me but the one I have finished appears to fit my husband better so the next two/ three pairs will have to be for me (already bought the yarn) and trying to resist buying more sock yarn but all the photo,s of delicious yarn on the Facebook page are stretching mr willpower to its outer limits lol.
Happy Birthday. Sock knitting is so addictive, I've been knitting them for years and I still have a pair that my Grandma made for me 45 years ago ! ( with new feet ). Inthe last year I have made 4 pairs. Anne Kennerley
Just received my yarn in sherbet fizz & rum paradise…..trying to decide which yarn to use for my 1st pair of socks for me of course…..then my 2nd pair will be for my daughters who will have to have 1 sock each until I can make my 3rd pair!
Excited but a bit scared too for my sock adventure xx
I made my first pair of socks using your pattern. Thank you so much! I have wanted to learn to knit socks for years. They are so comfy! I did have a little trouble with the first toe but did better on the second. Started my second pair but my 2 year old grandson found them and a pair of scissors…love that little darling but will have to start over with new yarn! Thank you again for your patterns and tutorial.
Happy birthday! My second pair of socks will be for my mom!
I am ashamed to say that I have only finished one pair of socks and have two unfinished pairs languishing in a bag. I so want to be a sock knitter so I'm going to try again. My husband loves red socks so the second pair I knit will be for him.
I started my first pair of socks in the winter after happening upon your page. I finally finished them up about a month ago and instantly started my second pair that I am currently in the middle of. I love your pattern and as someone who was a crocheter not a knitter you got me totally hooked on socks! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Awesome giveaway! I'm nearly finished making my 6th pair!

I'm part way along my first sock and am determined to complete but may need abit of encouragement along the way. I'm inspired by how many other pairs are posted, so envious. yes, I have sock envy!
I'm always happy to supply encouragement, Ann, and if you're on Facebook you might want to join our lovely Sockalong group – there's plenty of encouragement in there (but not always for your knitting – also for buying yarn, accessories, things you didn't know you needed … 🙂 ) facebook.com/groups/642084589269882/
I just found out about your group a few minutes ago and requested to join. I have knitted three pairs of socks and am struggling along with a lace pair. None of them have fit me well so they have become gifts to my daughter and granddaughter who love them. I would like to make a pair that fit me! I will check out your tutorial. Thanks.
I hope the tutorials help! I've just added a whole group of people to the Facebook group so hopefully you're part of the Sockalong crowd now – great if you need real time help! xx
