Aardvarkish: one of a kind, as in the noun “aardvark”.

This crescent-shaped shawl is worked from the bottom edge and the shaping is created by short rows. It is ideal for a single skein of yarn, especially one-of-a-kind hand-dyed yarns, as all of the yarn is used up.

It might seem odd to name a shawl after a rather strange-looking animal but I wanted a name that would fit the yarn and this one seemed just perfect. It’s a one-of-a-kind yarn, gifted to me shortly before Hallowe’en and appropriately named (for the time of year): “Frankenstein”. I felt it needed a pretty pattern to make up for the rather sad story that the name brings to mind, and this simple diamond pattern works very well. And because I couldn’t bring myself to call a shawl “Frankenstein”, one-of-a-kind or not, I decided to name it “Aardvarkish” because it’s unique. Who wants to run with the crowd?!

There are written instructions and charts for this pattern.  It is knitted in 4ply but you could use any gauge or weight of yarn.

You can read more about the pattern in this blog post:  Aardvarkish Shawl
