Blogtober 2021 : Day 29

Happy Friday!

We’ve made it to the end of another week and I hope you’re all ready for fun and fabulous weekend!  I know it’s Hallowe’en on Sunday and normally I would try not to mention a certain other holiday before that, but today is a giveaway day and how could I not add some festive decorations to the photos of these gorgeous sock blockers?!  Would you like to win them?  If so, read on!

A flatlay of adjustable wooden sock blockers surrounded by Christmas stars, red glass baubles, gold tinsel and a tiny ceramic reindeer.

They are a child-sized pair of adjustable sock blockers made by Victoria of D19EcoFriendlyLife and you may have seen the Winwick Mum blockers that Victoria has made for me previously and the knitting box she has recently designed when I wrote about them on the blog.  We’ve done a couple of giveaways together although they have been on Instagram – when she asked if I’d like another pair of blockers to give away, I thought that the blog would be ideal place given that I’ve been here every day during Blogtober!

The blockers are wooden with festive cut-outs so if you’ve got Christmas socks in mind for smaller members of your family, these might be right up your street!  Blockers aren’t an essential part of a knitter’s kit but they are a lovely addition if you make socks to give away as gifts as they stretch out the socks whilst they dry so that they look very professionally made.  If you’ve got a lace pattern in your socks as well, the blockers will help to stretch that out to it’s fullest extent and I’ve got to say, you really do look like a knitting superstar when you hand those over to someone!

Isn’t that reindeer cute?

A close up of the leg section of a wooden sock blocker. At the top is a cutout of a reindeer with festive shapes and Christmas trees underneath.

You can see here how the blockers work.  For the smallest size, you would keep them as they are here with the interlocking shape fitted into all of the teeth.

A close up view of the wooden sock blocker showing the foot sizes.

For bigger sizes, you simply move the shape out to the size that you want – I think that these are UK sizes but I can check with Victoria to be sure.

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is tell me in the comments which of Father Christmas’s (Santa’s) reindeer has a very shiny nose.  I do appreciate that not everyone celebrates Christmas but it’s pretty hard to get away from that song over the holiday season whatever so everyone should still be able to enter 🙂

The giveaway is now closed.  You can find who won on Friday’s post!

Don’t forget that you’ll need to add your name as well (no other personal details though!) in case your comment lists you as anonymous, and don’t worry that your comment won’t show straight away as they are all moderated to reduce spam – they sit safely on a list until I can check them!  The giveaway closes at 8pm UK time on Wednesday 3 November 2021 and I’ll draw the winner using the Random.org widget and let you know in the blog post on Friday 5 November.  You can enter from anywhere in the world as I am happy to post the blockers to you (fingers crossed they arrive in time for your festive socks!).

If you can’t wait to see if you’ve won, or if you just want to have a look at what else is in Victoria’s shop, you can find it here and you can get 10% off with the code WINWICK10.

If this puts you in the mood to cast on some socks, let me draw your attention to a new link that’s on my blog just over on the right hand side – Snufflebean Yarn*.  Laurelin, who owns Snufflebean Yarn, now has the largest range of Novita yarns in the UK and if you’ve not heard of them before but you love knitting thicker socks then you’re in for a treat.  Novita is a Finnish yarn company and knitting socks in Finland is pretty much a national pastime.  They prefer thicker socks for their colder Winters and Novita has a great range of DK (8ply) and Aran yarns which are all wool/nylon mix yarns and ideal for socks.  If you used to like West Yorkshire Spinners Aire Valley yarns for boot socks (sadly now discontinued), the Novita yarns are similar and a good alternative.  You can use the yarns with my 8ply (DK) boot socks pattern and the Sockalong tutorials … and you can get 10% off your shopping with the code WINWICKMUM.

Hopefully, with the codes and the giveaway, everyone can be a winner!  Good luck if you enter the giveaway, I’ll see you tomorrow! xx
