Good morning ladies and gentlemen …

Happy New Year and welcome on board this Winwick Mum flight 2019.  Please give this short safety announcement your full attention before settling back to enjoy your year.

This year’s flight will take us past socks, no-nylon yarns, the vegetable patch, overgrown flower borders which will hopefully be tamed, a Studio Shed which is in mid-renovation, free patterns which I love to share on the blog, more socks, some other knitting projects, walks with the dog, more socks and possibly some unexpected detours, because isn’t that the fun of a journey?  On board refreshments will include tea, chocolate, shortbread biscuits and – oh OK then, something a bit more healthy every now and again.

The aisle and exits need to be kept clear so excess yarn should be safely tidied away.  It is not always necessary to keep it in overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you as it is not only a form of house insulation, but also a useful aid to relaxation, mindfulness, self-care and replenishing your wardrobe.

As may be expected in any year, we may experience periods of turbulence and overwhelm during this flight but we ask that you keep your tray table in the upright position and your eyes on better times up ahead.  Laws of nature dictate that turbulence is a temporary condition, so if this situation does occur, adopt the brace position and be kind to yourself until it passes.  In the unlikely event that oxygen is required, masks will drop from the overhead compartments.  If this occurs, keep your seatbelt on and pull the mask sharply downwards for air.  Breathe deeply and evenly, pick up your knitting and continue as before, remembering that there is no such thing as selfish knitting and that your well-being is essential to everyone else’s.  With this in mind, please make sure that you have secured your own oxygen mask before helping others.

Smoking is not allowed on this flight unless it involves an open fire, sausages or possibly some roast potatoes left in the Aga on Sundays (I know, how do I manage that?!).

Please make sure that electronic devices are switched to flight safe or airplane mode now.  You will find a selection of knitting patterns and general everyday ramblings on the in-flight Winwick Mum blog, along with our in-flight shop with today’s selection of Super Socks books and Winwick Mum pin badges.

Life jackets will not be required on this flight.  However, blankets for those in need of security or comfort, those feeling poorly or for general snuggling may be knitted or crocheted at any time.

In case of an emergency landing, you will find the exits for fun, useful and helpful Facebook groups here and here.  Alternative exits leading to depression, anxiety, general lack of self-confidence and despair are not recommended, and instead, passengers are directed to the Sockalong tutorials where they can find information on knitting socks which always brightens someone’s day 🙂 .

We’re about to take off now, so please make sure that your seatbelt is fastened, your seat is upright and your tray table is safely stowed away.  Thank you for flying with Winwick Mum, we hope you have a pleasant flight and we look forward to spending our year with you.

Happy New Year. what a wonderful post. I think you have it covered in the pre-flight check and these words of wisdom apply to all – even non knitters….especially the bits about turbulence and breathing….. let the journey begin Lee
