Socktember 2026 – Sock of the Day 3
Sock of the day: Cable pattern
Drunken Cable Socks

Why knit the Drunken Cable Socks?
Oh, I love cables – they make a sock knitter look so accomplished! I love the way they make the stitches twist around each other, and with this pattern, the cables also twist their way up the sock. Based on the Basic 4ply Socks pattern, this pattern does require some concentration as you follow the chart or the written instructions – but look at how your socks turn out!
The Drunken Cable Socks pattern is one of the four exclusive patterns featured in More Super Socks and whilst you might think this is too hard if you’re a relatively new sock knitter – it’s just cables! Once you know how to knit them (and More Super Socks also contains the Easy Cable Socks pattern with the step-by-step photo and video tutorial to go with it), you can knit any cables you like. This pattern was designed specifically to help you push your sock-knitting boundaries!
Pattern features

The Drunken Cable Socks feature 3 stitch cables to make neat cable lines that drunkenly weave their way up (or down) your socks. The pattern is mirrored so you have a left and a right foot (whichever way round you want to wear them) and there are separate charts and written instructions for each foot.
If you’re familiar with the Basic 4ply Socks pattern, you’ll recognise the heel flap and gusset-type heel knitted with heel stitch to make a comfy, cushioned heel so there’s nothing new to learn here.

Which yarn should I use?
The socks in the photo are knitted in Baa Ram Ewe Titus 4ply in shade Aire. I chose this yarn because all of the patterns in More Super Socks are knitted with British yarns; you can use any 4ply sock yarn to work this pattern.
