Why knit the Boxy Rib Socks?

The Boxy Rib Socks are one of my most popular patterns – and it’s easy to see why!  Based on the Basic 4ply Socks pattern, this pattern is simple yet so effective, and perfect as a next-step confidence-building pattern for those ready to move on from a basic sock.

It’s also brilliant for anyone who wants a quick knit (this would be great as a pattern for your Emergency Socks* bag), or a gift knit as even with such a simple pattern, you can’t buy socks like these in the shops … the great thing about the textured stitches is that they lift the socks out of the ordinary but won’t take you too long to knit so you can soon tick them off your list!

Pattern features

The ribbed panel is broken up by rows of purl stitches and is easy to memorise so not only is it great for an on-the-go project, this pattern is also perfect for TV knitting or knit ‘n’ natter knitting when you can’t really concentrate on anything too complicated otherwise you end up unravelling it all when you get home (ask me how I know this 😀).

If you’re familiar with the Basic 4ply Socks pattern, you’ll recognise the heel flap and gusset-type heel knitted with heel stitch to make a comfy, cushioned heel so there’s nothing new to learn here – most important if this is your first foray into different sock patterns!

Which yarn should I use?

The socks in the photo are knitted in West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply in Brightside, one of the Winwick Mum yarn colourways, but this pattern will look great in any yarn – either self-striping like this one, variegated or a solid shade.
