Hello July
Hello, hello, I hope everything is well in your world! I’m not quite sure how it’s July already but according to the calendar, it most definitely is!
I’ve not been around on the blog so much over the last few weeks but all is well chez Winwick Mum and we have been filling our time with various things including a family break to Wales – this is the lovely pebble beach at Moelfre on Anglesey where we spent some time last week. Oh, our dog so loved being able to walk to the beach every day from the apartment that we stayed in on another part of the island; his favourite part was wallowing in the shallow pools left by the sea and he spent his time as a very happy, very sandy boy! We got to see all the weather from sunshine to showers as is the nature of a UK holiday, but we’ve come back refreshed and ready to … well, ready to rest some more, to be honest!
I posted June’s Monthly Musing at the beginning of this week and whilst I was thinking about what to write about, I looked through a few of the older Musings and it occurred to me that I’m very good at telling other people to take a rest but not so good at actually following my own advice! This week, I’ve been playing catch up, as is the law when you take any time off, but I’ve also been doing my best not to hit the ground running and overdo it.
I’ve been out in the garden a lot this week (still buzzing with ideas from my visit to the Chelsea Flower Show), I’ve been sitting and knitting (socks of course, and a top for me – I have conveniently ignored everything in WIP bags that needs finishing and cast on something new 🙂 ) – and I’ve driven what felt like an unnecessarily large number of miles around the one way system of the city where not so small daughter is studying as we moved her out of her student accommodation into a shared house with three friends. She’s not moved far from where she was – but it was just too far to carry everything on foot (oh my goodness, so much stuff – or maybe there were just more of us to carry it when she moved in) and so we had to pack everything into the car in several loads, avoiding traffic wardens who were circling like sharks outside the accommodation building as it seemed like everyone was moving out on the same day and there were cars all over the place and nowhere without yellow lines to park them. It was a fun day!
On top of that, it’s been very hot in the UK and we don’t do heat very well here (we don’t do any extremes of temperature very well here!), so I’ve had lots of good intentions about doing lots of things … and haven’t done them. It is how it is 🙂 It’s been hotter elsewhere and southern Europe is still in the grip of a heatwave so if that’s where you are, I hope you are keeping cool, safe and hydrated.
At some point, I’ll catch up with the photos and stories I’ve not shown you and told you about but for now, I just wanted to say hello and let you know that I’m still here – and I’ll see you soon! xxxx
Hi Christine
Great to hear from you and I’m so very pleased everything is ok. I was beginning to get worried, I even checked and double checked my emails (and junk) in case I had done something crazy like blocked you 😂
Now I know I didn’t need to be. It’s good for you to have a break. Take care x
Ah no, I was just having a bit of time off – unplanned as these things can be – but thank you for thinking of me! xx
Good to hear from you Christine, glad you had nice break on Anglesey, we had a mammoth trek to Cornwall with family, lovely time but a tedious 765ml round trip🤨 not much knitting done of late it’s been too warm and the ‘can’t be bothered’ mode triggered😂
Hi Christine, although I didn’t see you when I was in UK recently I did go to John Arbon Mill for their open Weekend! Overspent but have now bought your Sunspot pattern and use some of the yarn I bought to knit them. Thank you for your you wonderful patterns. Geraldine
Oh, I am very envious – I’ve always fancied going to the John Arbon open weekend but it’s too far away from me unless I include it as part of a holiday – which is what you did! I do hope you had a fabulous time over here; you’ll have got to see all the weather too as we’ve had sunshine and rain over the last few weeks! 🙂 xx
Have a very happy July and please do follow your very good advice not to try to do too much all at once.
The beach on Anglesey looks wonderful and I can imagine it was Labrador heaven!
Ah, he absolutely LOVED the sandy beach where we stayed – we didn’t take him on the one in the photo as it was too steep and pebbly for him now. I’m still brushing up sand from the floor … 🤣 xx
Hello Christine. Lovely to hear from you, I was getting quiet worried, I was missing you. The weather has been too much for me too, but remind me about the heat when I am moaning of the cold in the winter !!! I started another pair of socks for my husband, your basic sock pattern. He loves his hand made socks, good job because I love knitting them 🤣 Take care and take time to relax xxx
Ah, that’s kind of you to say, thank you! I am sure your husband is looking forward to his new pair of socks – and you’re right, I saw the weather forecast and the sunshine is on its way again! xx
Lovely to read your latest blog Christine, I have missed you but we all need to allow ourselves some TLC. This weather has been too much for me but still managed to do some Knitting. Another hot week forecast next week so take care everyone.
Hi Christine, It is good to have you back, and also great to hear you enjoyed a well deserved break. I’ve never been to Anglesey yet but admit to being curious. I went with a university friend to my very first yarn festival on 7th June. The Wool Monty! Near Sheffield of course, we went both days and it was amazing. Got more free yarn than we actually bought and I think we will be going every year now. Looking forward to the photos. Sarah xxx
Oh, I’ve good things about the Wool Monty but I’ve never been as it’s always around the time of family stuff that we have going on. I’m really glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 xx
Hello Christine,
Great to hear from you! 😊
I was getting concerned that you were okay or that you had started writing the blog.
Happy to read that that is not correct.
It’s good to take a break. Unwind and regroup. Hope to read from you soon!
Take care, God Bless 🙏🏻

Xxxx
All good here – thank you for thinking of me! Hope everything is well with you too! xx
Oh it’s so lovely to take a beachy trip. My recent trip to Wales ended with chips on the beach watched by a huge seagull. I’m also enjoying knitting a top which is a lot easier than I expected. sock-knitting teaches you everything you need to know!
