We were away at the weekend, just my husband and I, at his cousin’s wedding down in Hemel Hempstead.  It’s about 4 hours’ drive from Winwick and it’s the first time that we have been away together for the weekend without the girls for longer than either of us could remember.  The girls were at home; not so small daughter had come back from uni and big daughter came to stay with her so that they could look after the dog and the cats, although if any of them were to be believed, nobody had fed them all weekend!

The wedding was wonderful.  It was thoughtfully and carefully planned to include everything and everyone that the bride and groom loved, and we were honoured to be part of the day.

On the Sunday, before we came home, my husband and I took the opportunity to eat the most delicious breakfast outside in the sunshine at a small Mediterranean restaurant opposite the hotel and across a canal bridge where narrowboats were moored; some of them were obviously permanent homes and others were at their winter moorings.  The sky was blue, there was the smell of woodsmoke in the air from the log burners on the boats and we couldn’t have been happier as we strolled along by the water before the long journey home.

I don’t think we could have asked for a nicer weekend!

Lovely photos of the canal. I’ve been watching several of the YouTubers who live on narrowboats; it’s my current fantasy–sitting there with my dog and cat and my knitting, watching the world float past.
    Oh well.
