Blogtober 2024 : Day 19

There was a conversation in one of my Facebook groups this week about knit n natter groups and what the charge might be to attend as some groups charge, some ask for donations and some are free.  As you can imagine, there were plenty of comments and opinions, and in the end, it will be up to the person who posted to decide what they will do about their question.

I’ve been out to meet a group of friends at a cafe today; it’s not an official knit n natter but we all take our projects when we meet up and there’s plenty of chat about yarns and what we’re up to along with other conversations about families, jobs, holidays and pretty much anything else you could think of.  I so appreciate being able to do this, it’s a gift to be able to spend time with like-minded people.

Two tables in a cafe with cups of tea and coffee on them and a plate of toast. There are people sitting around the tables, one of them is working on a knitted jumper A blue teacup with a white inside on a white saucer sitting on a table next to a partly-knitted green striped sock

My contribution to the Facebook question was that irrespective of the cost, if you feel that you’ve got value for money from the group both in terms of the physical aspects such as a cup of tea or a piece of cake, and the well-being aspects of being with knitting friends, being able to ask for help or share advice, and maybe just being out of the house for a while, then it’s worth whatever you pay.

For me this morning, listening to stories of friends who I’ve not seen right over the summer and have missed, and laughing so much that there was nearly a spilt tea accident, that was priceless.

I’ve been trying to find a Knit and Natter group near me recently but sadly there’s nothing doing at the mo’. Not even a general craft group it seems. Not that I’d have much to talk about mind you (I’m a bit dull!), and I do sometimes wonder how welcome us chaps would feel or be at one of these meetings considering the number of women present, and the topics they may want to talk about. Thankfully, I am enjoying your Blogtobering this year and look forward to each new post!

Wishing we had a local knit and natter group. Sounds like my sort of thing 🙂
