Spotted somewhere in the north west …

A pair of blue speckled socks with solid blue cuffs, heels and toes being modelled on feet. The feet are in the shape of a mermaid's tail to represent the name of the yarn. To the left is a bag of sea shells and to the right is a ceramic starfish

A strange creature with a mermaid-like tail … or perhaps they were just feet in brand new socks!

I am so pleased to have these socks off the needles and onto my feet!  It feels like ages since I had a new pair of socks that I could wear myself instead of having to hand over (it breaks my heart every time) or keep in good condition in a box in case I need to take photos.  Socks are meant to be worn, and I will thoroughly enjoy wearing these!

The yarn is Mermaid’s Tail by Stripey Cat Yarns – it was a set that came with a 50g skein of the main colour and 20g of the contrast.  I wasn’t sure if that would be enough for a pair of socks but it was and I had a fair bit left over.  The yarn is a superwash merino/nylon mix so quite different in texture to the West Yorkshire Spinners that I usually knit with as that is more woolly.  It’s nice to have a change.

The pattern is the Basic 4ply Socks pattern with contrast cuffs, heels and toes.

I’ve taken lots of photos of what I did to break up the pooling across the gusset and I did promise that I would write that up as a tutorial.  I haven’t forgotten, but there’s something else that comes first …

THE WINWICK MUM SOCKALONG

6TH BIRTHDAY!!

SIX YEARS!!  Can you believe it?  Time certainly flies and I am so pleased that the tutorials are as helpful today as they were when I first wrote them.  I love being able to help people knit socks!

There’s going to be the annual sock count and giveaway and the post for that will be on Monday 3 May 2021 as that’s the birthday day itself, so do come back to the blog if you’d like to take part.

It’ll be lovely to see you!

Lovely socks, the pattern and colour are a great combination. I do like that colour. Please keep the blog going. It’s a touch of home for me. I couldn’t get back to the Uk this year and I am so homesick.
