Yellow tulips, a cinnamon swirl on a black and white plate and a cup of tea on a wooden table

Thank you once again for your lovely comments after my post yesterday.  I did feel very sorry for myself but although I woke up still aching this morning, I’ve felt better as the day has gone on and I’d say I’m pretty much back to my usual self now.

It’s also been interesting reading your comments to see how we’ve all reacted differently to the Covid vaccination – some feeling nothing at all, some like me and poorly for a short while and others seem to have had the full hit – I hope everybody is feel well now!

I haven’t really done much today.  My husband, lovely man that he is, bought me some tulips and a cinnamon swirl when he was out this afternoon.  I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube, put some washing in the machine, eaten some leftover pizza (me not feeling very well is an excuse for the girls to order pizza for dinner, apparently) and realised that one of my tidying up decisions last week may not have been my finest move.

I was getting fed up of things being piled on my little desk in my study – mostly by me now, I have to say, after I grumbled that other people’s post and junk (other people in the family, that is, not passers-by 😀 ) was being dumped on my desk – there were balls of yarn, bank statements that needed filing, leaflets that needed to be read, a couple of project bags … I had the bright idea of sweeping it all off the desk and into a box on the floor which cleared my desk off beautifully and it’s so nice to work on that cleared space.

Unfortunately, the lobbing-it-all-int0-a-box method of tidying up is not one that I can recommend as now I can’t find anything (mostly notably my Mermaid’s Tail sock which needs a heel).  I think tomorrow’s job is going to be clearing out the box.

A box full of stuff!

Oh, I’ve changed the head on our dishwashing brush today.  I told you I was taking it easy!  Last year, I bought a new brush with a replaceable head and having changed it a couple of times, I needed to buy some more.  I have to say that this has been one of our better plastic-free changes.  I bought some toilet brushes at the same time and they haven’t worked out so well – they went mushy quite quickly and I’d find bristles stuck to the sides of the toilet – but this dishwash brush is great!  It’s a really simple system …

you buy the whole brush to start off with and then just buy the heads in the future.

A dishwash brush next to a replacement brush head

The metal part of the brush comes out of the handle so that you can slide the head out …

The old head has been taken off the dishwash brush and is lying next to the handle and the replacement head on a granite worktop

and slot in the new one.  Ta-dah!  The head is made from wood and tampico bristle so that will go into the kindling box to start the fire when it’s dried out.  No waste!

The replacement head is on the brush now. It is lying on the granite worktop next to the old brush head

They’re made by a company called Eco Living and I bought these replacement heads from an online shop called Friendly Turtle (not an affiliate link).

I’m really pleased that I bought this, it does feel like we’ve made a bit of a difference by not having a plastic brush in the kitchen.  Small things, but every small thing helps.

I’ve ended up being a bit later in posting this than I intended to be so I’ll stop here and chat to you again tomorrow … see you then!

Glad to hear you’re feeling better again! I think I remember my gran having these dish brushes – isn’t it funny how we’re rediscovering all the old things. I just got a proper old soap shaker to do my dishes with! (The purpose made soap is better than the old no-suds Sunlight, though). Enjoy your springtime!

Love your replaceable brush set up and I am like you – sweep everything off my desk into a box and then find it a real nuisance to have to deal with cleaning out the box. Glad that you are feeling a bit better today.

Good to see you back to yourself again! How lovely of your hubby to buy you flowers and cake, what a nice chap. I haven't heard of those brushes, but there again I just use a sponge and dishcloth so I've never looked. Anything that won't come off the dishes with the scrubby side of the sponge gets a good soak and that usually does the trick. Maybe I should look for an alternative to those sponges. I'm sure they are most likely plastic too.

Glad you're feeling (almost) better. At least now, in a couple of weeks, you'll be well protected from the dreaded lurgy! Yes, I've tried the shove-it-all-in-one-place method of tidying, too, but it then seems to take twice as long to sort it all out! xx

I holding out a bit longer for the jab not that I have been offered it yet, but have reacted badly to vaccines in the past. Mum and Dad flew through theirs, but sil felt worse than when she had the actual virus!

Glad you're feeling better and that you weren't poorly for very long. I've made a note of those dish brushes. It's those little differences that really help. Xx
