Winwick Mum 3rd birthday giveaway results

Wow wow wow!

Thank you so much for all of your comments and birthday wishes on the Sockalong’s birthday on Thursday!  Thank you, too, for taking the time to tell me more than just the number of pairs of socks you’ve knitted – I absolutely loved reading all the comments and it gave me a real feel for how knitting socks is just part of life for so many people – I think we have to feel sorry for those who haven’t cottoned (or yarned) on yet! 🙂

Well now, on to the reason that we’re all here – the giveaway results!  Let me remind you of the two prizes that were in the birthday giveaway this year:

Both have a signed copy of Super Socks and an enamel Winwick Mum Sockalong badge.  There’s a ball of West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply in each too, a set of stitch markers and either a spinning yarn holder or an 80cm circular needle.  Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced knitter, you should be able to make good use of all of this!

Before I tell you who’s won, I’m going to tell you about the pairs of socks that were knitted this year …

I asked how many pairs of the basic Sockalong socks you have knitted since May 2017 and I’ve added the number to last year’s running total which was 7,600.  Now, that’s a lot of socks and even more toasty toes, and what’s great about this number is that many of the socks were given away as gifts to people who perhaps had never even thought about how lovely it would be to wrap their feet up in proper woolly socks.  Some of those people have gone onto knit their own, and others have remained Sock Appreciators, but the net is spreading far and wide.  Even better, there are people wearing socks now who, for various reasons, could never do so before simply because there were no commercial socks available to them.  These are proper bespoke socks, designed for the wearer in sizes and yarns that suit them perfectly, and this is definitely one of the reasons that I love hand-knit socks so much.

I could probably write all day about how wonderful hand-knit socks are, but before you start to slide off your chair, let me instead tell you how many pairs were knitted this year.  Do you want to have a guess first?  In 2016 there were 3,500; in 2017 there were 4,100 and now in 2018 there are …

3360

giving a new total of 10,960

Oh my life!  Did you ever expect so many pairs of socks?!  I had to count them twice, I couldn’t believe it!  And this can only ever be a snapshot moment of people who happen to see the blog or the social media posts so perhaps there are many more pairs out there being knitted, worn and loved.  Do you see what we’re doing?  We really are taking over the world one sock at a time, and I truly believe that the world can only be a better place for it!

So whilst we’re all still buzzing with excitement, let me tell you who has won the prizes too.  I counted up all the comments and used the draw generator from www.random.org so that it would be fair.

The winner of this prize is …

and the winner of this prize is …

Congratulations to both of you!  Can you email me so that I can organise getting your prizes out to you?

Thank you once again to you all for taking part in the Sockalong birthday celebrations – it’s been good fun!  If you’ve got a minute, please do take a look at the websites of the talented and generous folk who gifted prizes:
