A woolly week!

It’s been an exciting and rather woolly week so far – my favourite kind of week!

After playing in the snow for a while on Sunday morning, I abandoned my usual housework jobs to knit mittens all day, chasing the light as I worked on my tutorial.

They’re finished now and I’ll be putting the final touches to the tutorial tonight ready to share with you tomorrow.  I’m really excited about it and can’t wait to see what you think of the mittens which are just a little bit out of the ordinary …

Yesterday I was over at Black Sheep Wools to meet up with some of the Facebook Sockalong group – we had a great afternoon knitting and chatting – and I got to see the new sock yarns that have just arrived at Black Sheep.  And being rather spoilt by my lovely BSW friends, I got to bring some home too!

The light has been dreadful for taking photos today, the colours just didn’t show properly so these pictures have been taken under a lamp at my desk.  They’re not perfect pictures – you can see the shine and this yarn on several photos looked like “hunky tweed” rather than “chunky tweed” (which I rather liked but decided not to post!).  It’s the right colour now, though – a muted red shade (0185) with coloured flecks which is going to be another pair of mittens.  I love this mitten pattern (even though I am slightly biased) – it knits up very quickly!

This one is fun.  It’s Rico Superba Las Vegas, and comes in both 4ply and 8ply which will make a really thick sock.  I’d actually gone to look for some 8ply yarn at BSW so when I saw this in purple and with sparkles as well then I couldn’t resist it!  I’ve been asked a few times recently about a sock pattern for DK yarn which is the equivalent of 8ply so I thought it was about time I made a pair so that I can speak with some authority on the matter!  (And there may well be a pattern too! J) This is shade 004 which comes in 150g (the 4ply is 100g).

Finally, there are these two.  Aren’t they beautiful?  This is the new Debbie Bliss sock yarn, called Rialto Luxury Sock.  It comes in 14 shades and it’s hard not to want them all!  The multicoloured yarn is shade 05 and the yarn in greys and browns is 06.

The dappled pattern of the yarn reminds me very much of pheasant feathers (a pheasant is a large gamebird here in the UK – you can find out more about them here).  What do you think?  Can you see the similarity?

Tomorrow is going to be all about mittens (have I mentioned the mittens at all? J) and I’m also busy finishing off socks so that I can start some of my new yarn.  This is – quite literally – a very quick picture of where I’m up to with my cashmere socks as the cat kept trying to sit on them. Neither of our cats have any respect whatsoever for my knitting and will sit on it at any opportunity, needles and all, if only given half a chance.

More woolly stuff tomorrow to continue the woolly week – I’ll see you then!

I was at Black Sheep Wools yesterday too! I must have missed you. I can't be a stocky friend cause I've bought the book, got the wool, found the needles and …. That's it! Nothing! Life keeps getting in the way. At least it's not boring!

How lovely to be gifted yarn. I knit a pair of mittens for my daughter for Christmas they are a good quick knit aren't they? Not like socks which I am very slow at knitting!

I'm off to Black Sheep Wools in April for the crochet bag workshop, but I must pop by earlier for some yarn to make a scarf. I love the Hunky wool; is it to make a cardigan for Ross Poldark before he comes back on TV? (my Hunk of choice at the moment!)

I think we need to write to the manufacturers and ask for it to be renamed! Mine is going to be mittens – I prefer Ross Poldark without a cardigan! 🙂 xx
