Normal service has been resumed

Both the girls are back at school and college and life is returning to it’s normal routine.  It usually takes me about a week to re-adjust after the holidays but it’s nice to make a start by getting out with the dog for our morning walks again.

He needs to get back into routine as well, not least by remembering not to hurtle off in delight at being back in familiar territory without so much as a backwards glance in my direction.  I had no plans to start my week of gently easing myself back into life-after-holidays chasing at full pelt after a dog who has decided to do his own thing but clearly the dog had other ideas!

At home, the house is quieter than it has been for weeks.  The sun is streaming in through the open front door and the Trachelospermum jasminoides (star jasmine) by the front door is still smelling beautiful.  It’s a tranquil moment and I’m tempted to sit here all day drinking it in whilst the sun warms my face.  But – there are Plans to be made.  The house needs to get back into some kind of order, there’s de-cluttering to be done (there’s always de-cluttering to be done – either I’m really bad at doing it or the junk breeds quietly in corners when I’m not looking) and there are socks to be knitted.  Yarndale is in just over two weeks’ time now and I’m so looking forward to a whole weekend in Skipton talking yarn, socks and revelling in being surrounded by heavenly squishiness.

Today, though, now that the dog and I are home in one piece, it’s time to get back to our normality. Lists are made, calendars are checked, meals are planned.  I am resisting the urge to try to do everything in one day as I know it won’t happen and then I’ll beat myself up for not being Superwoman.  There’s no rush.  Baby steps, as the Flylady says.  I’m revving my engines, preparing for take off, but a taxi down the runway is enough for today.

Hello amazing sock lady … my socks have been posted to you for Yarndale. I am so sad that I can't make Yarndale this year and to get to meet you, but I feel I know you and have done for years. Have a great time and I want to hear every single thing that happens once you have been … in the meantime relax if you can xx Joy xx

Ooh, that's wonderful, thank you Joy! Don't worry, I'm sure there will be plenty more opportunities for us to meet up at various woolly events, and I promise to take lots of pictures at Yarndale xx

    We are all superwomen Christine!
It took a good two weeks to get back into any kind of routine but now I feel like it's been going for months…. Dogs can be naughty when they want to! I am convinced that ours sometimes looks at me when I call him, grins, and does what he wants. xx

You were super-organised when your family went back to school, Christina, I was so impressed and you're definitely setting an example to aspire to! I'm glad I'm not the only with the dog that grins at you before heading in the opposite direction. At first I thought I was imagining it, but now I'm convinced that's what he does! Andy yes, you're absolutely right, we are all superwomen. I really must remember that! xx

It is good to get back to "normal" life and routine again isn't it. But do ease yourself in!!! Oh by the way, that stuff that is in the corners, it breeds. Everywhere it goes. We all have it!! xx

    • Winwick Mum says:

Oh no! And there's me hoping that one day I'm going to get to the bottom of it all! You know how to cheer a girl up, Amy! 😉 xx

Two weeks to Yarndale??? Can I come and say hiya even if I'm not a socker? I'll be there, with my Mini me daughter, but I'd love to meet a blogger who lives near to me (and even closer to my favourite yarn shop!)

    • Winwick Mum says:

Ooh yes, it'll be lovely to meet you and Mini you, Jo! And you never know, you might even leave wanting to knit socks! 😉 xx

Just catching up on some blog reading, so I am sure by now you are back in the full swing of normal term time routine. I agree about the junk accumulating, I am constantly taking bags of stuff to the charity shop. The lady in there greeted me a couple of weeks ago with 'You again? Is there anything left in your house? ' …er yes, lots! X
