Yarn Shop Day 2015

Phew, it’s been a busy day!  The point of Yarn Shop Day is to celebrate bricks and mortar yarn shops and Black Sheep Wools had a day of demonstrations planned to help swing the celebrations along.  Crochet expert Emma Varnam was there, as was super-spinner and dyer Cathy Wright and a certain person you might have heard of who likes socks J.

I had a whole table to myself to show off my socks on my new feet (which I managed to get to stand up by filling them with water – although bizarrely they didn’t want to stand up once the socks were actually on … I’m sure there’s some technical explanation for that!) and display sock and needle samples for people to try out.  And boy, were there a lot of people!  It was fantastic!  I’ve talked socks non-stop for most of the day and I’ve absolutely loved it, so I’d like to say a big “thank you” to Black Sheep Wools for inviting me!

It was so nice to meet so many people who are taking part in the Sockalong – there are going to be so many pairs of socks over the next few weeks!  I’ve set up a Flickr group so that we can show them off which you can find here.

There wasn’t just me with my socks at Black Sheep Wools.  This is Emma Varnam, showing a group of crocheters how to create amigurumi projects.  She had some great samples, including tiny cakes which looked good enough to eat and a VW camper van!

In the big room at the back of the Craft Barn was Cathy Wright, demonstrating yarn dyeing and spinning.  I wish I’d had chance to see her demonstrations as I’ve still not got round to dyeing the yarn that I bought at Yarndale nearly two years ago and a recap would have been useful!  Never mind, one day I’ll take the plunge!

Aren’t these colours wonderful?  I’ve really enjoyed seeing the yarn that everyone’s choosing for the Sockalong; there have been some wonderful colours there too.

Well, the big day is tomorrow and we’ll be casting on at 9.00am.  If you can’t start tomorrow, it’s absolutely no problem as you’ll soon catch up and the posts will always be here on the blog.

I’m really looking forward starting the Sockalong with you all tomorrow – thanks again to everyone who’s joined up and I can’t wait to see how you all get on!

Thanks, Pat! It was a great day, and I hope I showed a few people that knitting socks might not have been as difficult as they thought! xx

    Good luck with the sockalong!
And I wish I'd been free to come. The contributors look good; (please don't get cross but I think my favourite is the VW camper van)

    • Winwick Mum says:

I'm not cross at all – the camper van was fab, and you can probably get the pattern from Emma if you ever want to make one. It would have been nice if you could have come – it would have been good to meet you! xx

What a lovely yarny day that looks. I'm sure your stand was very popular indeed – it looks very appealing. I like the dyed yarn too. Glad your 'feet' co-operated in the end!

It definitely helped that my table was by the door – I could wave my socks at people as they came in! One or two put their heads down and ran for cover, but it was lovely to speak to so many people who are going to give socks a try! xx

My first time on this site. Needed help with knitting socks using magic loop which I just learned. Thank you for helping me knit socks this way. A new acquired skill. 🙂 will take a picture once they are finished.

    • Winwick Mum says:

Hello, thanks for visiting! It's great to discover a new skill, and socks on a magic loop are truly portable as you don't need any other needles xx
