Yarn Shop Day 2017

The plan for today was to write a quick post to remind you about Yarn Shop Day tomorrow (6 May), but before I do anything else, I must say a huge THANK YOU for all your comments about the Sockalong birthday.  I am truly touched by all of them and for the time that you have taken to tell me about your socks, not just how many pairs you’ve knitted for the giveaway entry, and luckily I’m writing and not talking to you as it’s pretty much left me speechless!  I’ll write more about it and let you know how many pairs have been knitted when I’m able to announce the giveaway winners.  On the subject of the giveaway, if you’ve not entered and would like to there’s still time before the draw on Sunday evening – you can find the post here.

So, back to Yarn Shop Day … it’s an annual UK event organised by Let’s Knit magazine to celebrate our bricks and mortar yarn shops, and although I am always very grateful for the way that we can buy pretty much anything we like through the internet, there’s nothing quite like going into a yarn shop for a good old squish, to ask questions and to spend a bit of time in like-minded company. Around 200 shops are taking part this year so there’s bound to be one near to you – you can check out the participating shops here – and with free patterns, discounts, goody bags, competitions and (I have it on good authority) cake* at the shops then you can be sure that you’ll be glad you stopped by.

I’m going to be at Christine’s wool shop (Cityknits) in Bournville (37 Sycamore Road, B30 2AA) from 10am so do come along if you can to say hello and bring your socks!  I like nothing better than admiring other people’s socks, and if you’re stuck on something then bring that as well and I’ll see if I can help you out.  There will be copies of Super Socks on sale which I’m very happy to sign if you can read my writing (!), and I’ll bring my needle samples too so that if you’re not sure which type of needle is right for you, then you can try them out before you buy them.

At the shop itself there will be discounts, goody bags for the first 50 customers, a Stylecraft raffle and a free Fikkerts candle for everybody spending over £10.  And cake.  Have I mentioned cake?

I’ll tell you all about the day after the weekend but I’m very much looking forward to it, and to spending the day in good yarny company!  It’ll be great to see you there, but if you can’t make it then I hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you’re doing!

* each yarn shop will be organising their own activities so it will depend on the shop owner exactly what is available at each shop, including what sort of cake they might have.  They might not have cake, but they will have lots of yarn and that’s always a good thing 🙂

Alas I was at work all day; but when I came home I made up for it by playing with lots of colours from odds and ends in my stash to make a blanket, so all was not lost! And I managed to knit some rounds on the socks for my friend using your brilliant instructions, so thank you! x Sarah
